| BPMN Training About the Training | ||
BPMN TrainingThe BPMessentials course Process Modeling with BPMN is designed for business analysts, process analysts, business architects, and BPM solution developers. The course was developed by Bruce Silver, well-known BPM industry analyst and consultant, and has evolved over multiple versions since 2007. Version 4.0 is organized in 13 parts, provides comprehensive explanation of the shapes and symbols, a step-by-step methodology for modeling at Level 1 and Level 2, and a style guide designed to promote consistency across the business... and a common language shared by business and IT.
CertificationOur approach is hands-on, using Process Modeler for Visio. You'll be using the tool early and often. There are exercises embedded in the training, with explanations in-line, but this is the easy part. Where you really learn to master BPMN is through the mail-in exercises done after class. You'll get individualized feedback, and it usually takes more than one try to get them right. You can't master BPMN from lecture alone. Successful completion of the mail-in exercises qualifies you for certification from BPMessentials, signifying mastery of the material. DevelopmentThe training was developed by Bruce Silver, well-known BPM industry analyst and consultant, author of the book >>BPMN Method and Style and the popular >> BPMS Watch website. The online training was launched in February 2007. Based on feedback from online student exercises and classroom training, versions 2.1 and 3.0 added more in-depth explanation at common trouble spots, more emphasis on best practices and top-down modeling principles, more examples. and more supporting files and documented procedures, especially for simulation. Version 4.0, introduced in October 2009, formalizes the process levels and recommendations from the earlier versions in a concrete "method and style" patterned after Bruce Silver's book of the same name. It also adds new shapes, patterns, and semantics of the BPMN 2.0 standard. Certain features of previous versions of the training, notably simulation analysis, have been dropped from the training material. It is anticipated that with BPMN 2.0 simulation support in Process Modeler 6, expected in 2010, simulation will return to the training curriculum in some fashion. The training includes hands-on experience using Process Modeler for Visio from itp commerce. A 30-day license to the tool is included with the training, and purchasers of the training may upgrade to a permanent license at a substantial discount. An add-in to Microsoft Visio, the de facto standard for all types of diagramming, Process Modeler stands out by offering features important to effective process modeling, such as the ability to drill down to detail at multiple process levels and provide detailed, customizable simulation analysis.
