Question 1 |
A | 1
|
B | 2
|
C | At least 2
|
D | 3
|
Question 1 Explanation:
The correct answer is D. The gateway implies two non-Error end states, ‘Credit OK’ and 'Bad Credit'. The Error event implies a third end state ‘Customer not found’.
Question 2 |
If a top-level process has multiple end events, which of the following statements is true?
A | At least one of the end events should send a message.
|
B | At least one of the end events should be labeled.
|
C | Each of the end events should be labeled to indicate the end state.
|
D | One of the end events should be labeled to match the next activity in the flow.
|
Question 2 Explanation:
The correct answer is C.
This is not a rule of the BPMN spec but an important style rule.
Question 3 |
In one instance of the process shown below, Review contract starts at 12 noon exactly and takes 3 hours to complete. When is the manager notified?
A | 1 pm
|
B | 3 pm
|
C | 1:01 pm
|
D | Never
|
Question 3 Explanation:
The correct answer is B. You should not use a gateway to test an activity deadline, because the gateway condition is not tested until the previous activity is complete. If you want to notify the manager after one hour, you need to use a timer boundary event, not a gateway.
Question 4 |
All packages must include a completed shipping label. International packages must also include customs documentation. If proof of delivery is requested, the delivery confirmation form must be attached. Which diagram fragment below describes this behavior?
Diagram A | Diagram B |
Diagram C | Diagram D |
A | Diagram A
|
B | Diagram B
|
C | Diagram C
|
D | Diagram D
|
Question 4 Explanation:
The correct answer is D.
The conditions are independent, so more than one could be true, and all true paths should be taken in parallel. The correct gateway type is OR (Inclusive). C is incorrect because the tickmark, designating default flow, does not mean ‘always’; it means ‘otherwise’.
Question 5 |
A | Diagram A
|
B | Diagram B
|
C | Diagram C
|
D | Diagram D
|
Question 5 Explanation:
The correct answer is A.
To join unconditionally parallel paths you must use an AND gateway.
Question 6 |
Which diagram properly models the child-level expansion of Review contract from the fragment above?

Diagram C |
Diagram D |
A | Diagram A
|
B | Diagram B
|
C | Diagram C
|
D | Diagram D

Question 6 Explanation:
The correct answer is D.
If a subprocess is followed by a gateway labeled as a yes/no question, the subprocess has 2 non-Error end states, one matching the gateway label (absent the "?") and the other labeled something else.
Question 7 |
If the draft of business requirements is not complete in 4 weeks, the Business analyst notifies the manager. Which diagram fragment below expresses this correctly?
Diagram A | |
Diagram B | |
Diagram C | |
Diagram D | |
A | Diagram A
|
B | Diagram B
|
C | Diagram C
|
D | Diagram D
|
Question 7 Explanation:
The correct answer is A.
Since the recipient of the notification is inside the process you cannot use a BPMN message or Send task, With non-interrupting boundary events, the exception flow and normal flow exits are conditionally parallel, so you need OR gateway join to merge them.
Question 8 |
A | Following receipt of a request to enable premium channels, an agent for the satellite television provider enables premium content on the account. If this task is completed within 10 minutes, the agent confirms the availability with the customer; if it cannot be completed within 30 minutes, the task is terminated and the agent notifies the customer of the estimated completion time.
|
B | Following receipt of a request to enable premium channels, an agent for the satellite television provider enables premium content on the account. If this task cannot be completed within 10 minutes, the agent confirms the availability with the customer; if it cannot be completed within 30 minutes, the task is terminated and the agent notifies the customer of the estimated completion time.
|
C | Following receipt of a request to enable premium channels, an agent for the satellite television provider enables premium content on the account. If this task cannot be completed within 30 minutes, the task is terminated and the agent notifies the customer of the estimated completion time; the agent waits 10 more minutes and then confirms the availability with the customer.
|
D | Following receipt of a request to enable premium channels, an agent for the satellite television provider enables premium content on the account. If this task cannot be completed within 30 minutes, the agent notifies the customer of the estimated completion time; upon completion the agent waits 10 minutes and then confirms the availability with the customer.
|
Question 8 Explanation:
The correct answer is D.
A non-interrupting timer boundary event triggers the exception flow on timeout, in this case 30 minutes, but does not interrupt normal completion of the activity. A catching timer event in sequence flow means wait for a specified duration, in this case 10 minutes, and then continue.
Question 9 |
A | Diagram A
|
B | Diagram B
|
C | Diagram C
|
D | Diagram D
|
Question 9 Explanation:
The correct solution is D.
As an entry is received it is checked, and this loop continues until a correct entry is found. C is incorrect because a Multi-instance activity is performed for a known number of iterations. A standard loop (D) is performed for an unknown number of iterations, based on repeated testing of the loop condition. A and B only receive a single entry.
Question 10 |
If the ordered item is out of stock, terminate the order process. Which diagram fragment expresses this behavior?
Diagram A |
Diagram B |
Diagram C |
Diagram D |
A | Diagram A
|
B | Diagram B
|
C | Diagram C
|
D | Diagram D
|
Question 10 Explanation:
The correct answer is C.
A Terminate end event (A) ends the subprocess but flow continues on the normal exit, so in A the process continues even when out of stock. Both B and D are invalid BPMN. B is missing the Error boundary event, and D uses Message event instead of Error.
